Taxes...

I'm not really a fan of taxes, fortunately that makes me popular with some cool people: Milton Friedman (dead), Ron Paul, and true Patriots (really dead). This video Update: that video was taken down, here is a similar video by Milton Friedman piqued my interest in economics and has helped shaped my thoughts on government's role in society. Quite simply, I think you are more careful with your money than the government is with taxes. Right now the calculator is going to be slightly high for each person because exceptions for sales tax on food & drugs differ with each state. I'll amend those discrepancies as this project matures. While the federal government has accrued some $37,316 worth of debt per capita that doesn't represent their future obligations which inflate that number by an order of magnitude... ouch. The charts don't expand to represent the size of those numbers, but it will eventually.
